How to teach conflict management in teenagers?

During the teenage years, there might be a clash between you and your child. This happens mostly due to the difference in both of your thought processes.

Conflicts are fine till they are normal and healthy. While your child is in his teens, there might be some conflicts between you guys related to the difference in opinions, views, and that is alright.

However, take care that these conflicts don’t create a difference between you and your child.

Try to think back to the time when you were your child’s age. Understand what you must be thinking if you were at his place now. Then with your life experiences, teach your child about how conflicts happen and how he should manage those conflicts in certain situations.

Handling anger in conflict management

Anger is the first thing to come in any conflict. Teach your teenage child how to manage his anger, as getting in anger can create some serious problems that can stay with your child for a lifetime.

Teenage is that age where children get angry on even minor issues. Here, you need to become your child’s best friend and discuss their problems with them.

If your child gets angry in a conflict or uses an angry tone, here are some tips:

  • Ask them to stay calm in any situation.
  • Taking a break from any conflict will always be a good idea
  • Let your child know (you) his best friend is always there to listen to him.
  • Be your child’s counselor.
