Table of Contents
Initiating a conversation with strangers can be an overwhelming experience even for adults, let alone children. But, knowing how to do that is equally important.
Whether academic or professional, life puts us in many situations where we have to encounter strangers and develop relationships. If kids are taught how to start a conversation in their childhood itself, it won't be a daunting experience for them when they grow up.
Here are 7 tips you should give to your children to help them start a conversation with anyone
- It's an Experience- Make them realize the importance of creating a conversation. Your child should know that a conversation holds significance beyond its content. Every conversation can be an experience for them to learn and grow.
- Avoid Small Talk- Small talks don't go too far and are often superficial. Teach your child not to indulge in small talks but instead engage in meaningful conversations. The conversations help the two involved people know each other better.
- Common Interest- Asking someone about their interest is the best way to keep them engaged and interested in the conversation. Practice that with your child, too, so that it becomes their habit as well while creating a conversation.
- Compliments- Introduce your kids to the power of compliments. Giving compliments to others always helps in boosting their confidence. This also helps you in building good terms with the other person.
- Eye Contact- Teach your children how to maintain eye contact while talking to someone. Eye contact is the most efficient way to exhibit your confidence and gain the other person's trust. It gives a personal touch and assures the other person that you are an active part of the conversation.
- Listen to Listen- This is the most difficult yet important habit you need to teach your child to make them a good conversationalist. Though listening requires a lot of patience, it is the key to win any conversation.
- Ask For An Opinion- Always ask your children's opinion in everything so that they also realize the importance of doing that. Also, asking for an opinion isn't where the story ends. You will have to teach them to respect others' views.
