7 tips on improving your child's vocabulary

Vocabulary is one of the most important pillars of effective communication.
Unfortunately, it gets neglected often by teachers and parents, therefore it becomes difficult for children to cultivate a good vocabulary when they grow up.
Rich vocabulary doesn't mean complex vocabulary. Using a variety of words helps in exhibiting your hold over the language.
So, if you take care of your child's vocabulary at a young age, it wouldn't become a challenge for them when they grow up.
7 tips that can help you improve your child's vocabulary are-
- You should keep encouraging your child to search for new words. Please give them a dictionary to search for new words and get to know the meaning of the same. Understanding the meaning will make it easier for the child to remember the words.
- Always try to initiate discussions with your child and introduce them with such words. Encourage them to use those words in the conversations to make them familiar with them.
- Read your child's books with them. Teach them how to be better at pronouncing such words. Ask them to find out the meanings of the most challenging words.
- Take some time and play some word games with your child. Crossword, Scrabble, such games would be beneficial in improving your child's vocabulary. Encourage them to use the new words they have learned in those games.
- Be a friend of your child and help them if they are unable to understand new words. A child learns faster if a healthy equation develops.
- Try to introduce at least one new word each day and include it in your child's conversations.
- Try and develop a reading habit amongst your child. This will help them throughout their life.
