5 tips to succeed in an informational interview

Table of Contents

What does an informational interview mean? These interviews provide a better method of learning. Through these interviews, you can learn about an employer or a job before indulging yourself in them. Basically, in "informational interviews," a job seeker searches for advice. They play an incredible role in setting up your future. Want to get success in an informational interview? Or have a strong desire to broaden your horizon? Here are some tips that will make you successful in informational interviews.

    1. Become friendly: Instead of getting straight to the point or introducing yourself, start a pleasant conversation. If you converse in a warm tone, people will open up to you. For example, ask about their family, health, and job status only if you know them beforehand.

    2. Making the environment: Make sure to convince them by telling them about your interest in them. If you are connected to social media platforms, you can talk about one of the most attractive posts that you liked the most. Pick up their achievements from their profiles and converse on it.

    3. Strongly decide what you achieve from the meeting: If you cannot converse properly or you cannot recognise what you want, then the other person can't help you. So, please attend the meeting with prepared questions and make it successful.

    4. Don't just grab a job: It's true that job seekers, in the beginning, ask for a job. However, don't ever do that. Just asking for a job upfront, even before proving yourself, describes your prematurity. Firstly, you should make a good impression on the other person, then only ask for a job.

    5. Never forget to send a thank-you note: Never forget to send a thank-you note through email or handwritten after the informational interview. Make a habit of sending updates every few weeks, so the manager gets impressed. Appreciate the manager for their time for the meeting. You can make a better relationship with the person who knows the manager who hired you.
