Table of Contents

People listen to hundreds of speakers every day. You cannot make your mark unless you know how to end your speech in a memorable way.

Your speech is like a movie; while a good opening is important to hook the readers, a powerful ending ensures that you and your speech are remembered.

The conclusion of your speech should be able to stir the hearts of the audience.

10 ways to make the ending of your speech memorable are -

    1. Use your Title: The title of your speech is a very powerful tool that you can use for your benefit. There are many ways in which a title can amplify the impact of your speech. One such way of using your title is, using it to end your speech. Use a title that conveys the message of your speech in the least possible words.
    2. Repetition is the key: Repetition is the most effective way to get your point etched in your audience's mind. Repetition can be in the form of a phrase, structure, or pattern. When similar things strike the audience's mind repetitively, they are more likely to be remembered by the audience.
    3. Close with a quotation: Ever since school time, we have seen the strength of quotations. Quotes can grasp the attention of the audience. A quote relevant to your speech will help elevate its impacts, especially when used towards the end. Using quotations that the audience is familiar with might help you create a better impact and not pick the overused ones.
    4. Bookend Close: Endings are usually about coming back a full circle. Tying loose ends is one of the best ways to end your speech. Refer back to the anecdote that you shared in the beginning and disclose the purpose of sharing it towards the end. Connect all the dots so that audience doesn't go back with a head full of questions.
    5. Leave a Call to Action: End your speech with a call to action. Your audience should know what to do next once you are done talking. If you want them to buy your service, follow your social media accounts, register for something, make a clear call to action.
    6. Close with a story: By now, you already know the power of storytelling. Placing your story at different places in the speech will create a different impact. Stories are highly effective when used towards the end. After you are done explaining your point, make the audience understand it with the help of a story like “Let me tell you a story that illustrates what I have been talking about…”
    7. End with a movie reference: While concluding your speech, make your point with reference to a movie or book. We all know that people understand better when you quote or refer to a well-known movie. Pick a scene from a movie that talks about the point that you are trying to make. People will remember your words every time they come across the mentioned scene.
    8. Give a challenge: What is a better way to make room in the head of your audience than throwing a challenge at them? Challenge your audience to implement what you have told them. Challenges are the most effective ways of motivating people to achieve something.
    9. Let the audience close your speech: Let the audience join you towards the end of the speech. Frame an ending that you can ask your audience to repeat with you like "Together we can". This will not only involve them but also create a powerful and positive vibe in the room.
    10. Leave with laughter: Close your speech with humor. No one forgets the person that makes them laugh. Humor is the best tool to make your way to your audience's heart. This will also help you close on a light note and will also make your connection with the audience even more frank and friendly.
